Up to the clouds
The research community today has an ever increasing need for access to large-scale computing and networking resources. The production Grids are successfully showing how to meet the needs of international research communities by the provision and sharing of large compute and data services across many different management domains. In recent years everyone is very aware of the explosion of interest in Cloud technology with a large number of commercial providers now offering services. The challenge for TERENA, the NRENS and its user communities is to establish how best to build and operate an infrastructure that harnesses the efficiency, flexibility and scalability of Clouds with the standards-based interoperability of Grids. Speakers in this session will present different aspects of the provision of scalable and efficient sharing of computing resources and access to data for the research community in "the cloud".
