UNG resources

The basis of grid infrastructure in Ukraine has been built by applying two programs: "Implementation of grid technologies and the creation of clusters in the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine" and " Information and Communication Technologies in Education and Science ", the main performers of which were National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Ukrainian National Grid (UNG) is a grid infrastructure, which shares the computer resources of the institutes of National Academy of Science and Universities. The principal task of the UNG is to develop the distributed computing and grid technologies to advance computational calculations of fundamental and applied science. Besides, UNG has to ensure a participation of the Ukrainian scientists in various major international Grid projects.

Currently grid infrastructure shares resources of 30 institutes and universities, which are operating under the ARC middleware and three clusters included in EGI structure under gLite middleware. It's not really much, but currently it's enough to support research activity of Ukrainian institutions.

Ukrainian Grid infrastructure is a geographically distributed computing complex, which currently provides solution of the complex scientific problems in different application areas. In essence these are very various tasks. Here are a few examples of abovementioned tasks:

  • LHC (CERN) experimental data processing, their analysis and comparison to the theoretical results and phenomenological models aiming the full scale participation of the Ukrainian institutes in the ALICE and CMS experiments.
  • Dynamical computing of an evolution of the star concentration in the Galaxy’s external field. The hydrodynamic modeling of collision and fragmentation of the molecular clouds. Analysis of N-body algorithm and parallel computing on the GRAPE clusters.
  • Theoretical analysis, observation and processing of primary, roentgen and gamma radiation data which are obtained from the satellite telescopes INTEGRAL, SWIFT and others.
  • Computing of thermodynamic characteristics, infrared and electron spectra of sputter DNA fragments. Study of bionanohybrid system structures composed by DNA and RNA of different sequence.
  • Molecular dynamic computing of Fts-Z-protein systems with the low molecular associations.
  • Computer simulation of the spatial structure and molecular dynamics of cytokine-tyrosine-RNA synthetase.
