This document introduces the platform-driven service delivery model to the EGI community. It defines the term platform as such, and how IT platforms may fit into todays EGI ecosystem. 
After providing a first sketch of the architecture of a potential platform-driven future EGI community, the document explores how the described platforms might look like. 
Based on the material given in the earlier sections the document concludes with an outlook into a potential future, were the platform-based service delivery adopted by EGI.

This strategic plan outlines the initiatives that can take place within the EGI community over the next two years, supported through the FP7 EGI-InSPIRE in the first instance and subsequent related projects that will, in the future with further investment, develop EGI’s strengths in: 
• European-wide coordination and interaction with research communities and national resource infrastructure providers 
• Coordination, maintenance, operation and delivery of an open uniform European-wide federated production infrastructure 
• Developing and promoting technologies for federating new resources

 How a component of the venom used by the marine cone snail to hunt for food can help to create new painkillers. Researchers are using grid computing to digitally modify molecules found in the venom. The grid allows them to run a lot of trial and error tests extremely quickly to look for the right molecular shape that will be the perfect fit for the pain receptors in humans.

Grid Computing: the Next Decade
4th – 6th January 2012, Zakopane, Poland

The program offers keynote talks by Grid and Cloud computing prominent thinkers as well as presentations of modern distributed computing infrastructures, capabilities and applications from users and community leaders. The meeting will also serve to build research and collaboration bridges between European, US, Asia-Pacific and other region's research organizations. Moreover, a panel with representatives from US, European, Chinese and Japanese funding agencies will discuss funding opportunities for cross-boundary, global collaborations.
